Learning Letter

  1. I think that class was very insightful and taught me a lot about how I want to continue informing myself on different topics and strategies in education. It also has made me really think about all the teachers I've had and how I want to incorporate those experiences into my own teaching. What I feel like I've learned the most is how important it is to establish a community with the other teachers around me. I learned so much from my classmates and all the projects and presentations we did. I think learning about what makes a good reference text or what to look for in a classroom book was very helpful. the content portfolio project also really made me realize how much I value giving my students some autonomy and creativity in their lessons.
  2. I really learned the most about teaching visual literacy. To be honest I never really thought about people struggling to understand the visual aspect of graphic novels before this class. I always assumed it was second nature to people because that's how it was for me. the only type of graphic literature I struggled reading was Japanese texts. And that was mainly because the formatting is completely different from English based works. So learning that my students may struggle with that and how to help them was one of the biggest things I learned.
  3. Honestly, this class made me want to start keeping a journal of my teaching. I think it would be really helpful for me to write down what really worked and didn't work for me as the years went on, and I could always have them for reference. I think it would be a great way to track the things I learned as I went along, as well as keeping me reflective. I also want to start accumulating my own library of education texts. I think it would be really helpful to have books I could pull from and that my students could look over as well. It made me think about how our teaching is more of a collaborative effort and not just me trying to help my students.
